PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

Date:               March 23, 2010                      

Time:              7:00 p.m.

 Place:              WBS Library

Present:          Cynthia Weidl, Dana LaRocque, Nancy B, Kristine Maisy, Christina Ambrose, Ms McDevitt, Mrs Poloski, Michelle.

1.0       PAC Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.

2.0       Agenda motioned by Kristine, seconded by Christina. Approved 

3.0       Minutes from Feb meeting have been amended. The correction needs to be made where Trish was asking the Lions in conjunction with Tony Pimental for the breakfast program funds.  Not hydro. 

4.0       OLD BUSINESS

            -  Need to get Mr. Moore to put us onto the school website; he is apparently the only one who can do this.

            -  1500$ was received from Red Nose.  The money is toward the basketball nets that are needed for the gym.  Division is giving a larger portion and Ms McDevitt needs to get the rest raised from other areas. i.e. yard sale.  PAC needs to get a receipt before we can give funds to WBS.

            -  Trish was to get a letter out to Tony - Lion, regarding the breakfast program.  She is not present at the meeting however.  No confirmation has been made as of yet.

            -  Recycling program- blue bins are cleaned out once a week and put into the shed until it gets disposed of need to get the kids more informed.

            -  Kitchen needs a major cleaning as well as the washroom near gym.  Needs to be cleaned and filled with needed items regularly.

            - Feminine products needed with machine out of the washroom near classrooms and be installed near the gym, filled and in use for older students.

            -  Fundraisers - Christina spoke with Cheryl Z - School trustee- unable to do anything with alcohol or gambling.  Loses allot of potential ideas. You cannot advertise as PAC if you are having alcohol (bud spud and steak) even if it is a fundraiser with monies being donated to PAC.

            -  Family BBQ in Park by the soccer shelter? Christina to look into this along with Nancy for the BBQ's, Table till next month aim for July. Thinking of a bouncearoo for this event.  Ms McDevitt will see who they used for a cheaper price.

            -  Forming of committees instead of having sub committees. The person who has the idea, head of that area ie: fundraiser, social, sports, etc will be in full charge and if needs help asks. However there are people who feel we are too small to do this.

            -  April fundraiser - Mables labels was mentioned - Stuck on you also a label idea Donelli was also brought forward.  More in favor for the labels idea. Bring this up again at next meeting and hopefully have it out for May -  Christina to research this further.  Donelli idea maybe closer to the winter months. Motioned by Kristine seconded by Dana.

            -Christina to get started on the recycling program for inks and cell phones etc get this out into the community and with joining schools this will benefit us also.

            - Grad gifts for the grade 7 students Mr. Moore to get info if they would like the sweatshirts again.  Nancy to find last invoice and get number for them.

            - Did they survey get done by the students regarding the recess and times etc.  - Yes it did and the students really didn't understand it, on hold now.

5.0       TREASURER’S REPORT

            - Balance in account is 4255.89$. 

6.0      ADMIN'S REPORT

            - Grade 3- 7 will have a French for life presentation.

            - New Behaviour idea for outside those that do not obey the school rules will include a detention room.

            -  Mrs. McDevitt handed PAC a request for 200$ toward the Activity days in Arborg - Kristine motions to give 200$ to the middle yrs activity days - Christina seconds this.  All in favour. Closed.  The request is in and we have agreed on this however the funds will not be given till September as that is when they may hold it now.

7.0       NEW BUSINESS

            - Hot lunches... Needs to be tabled until Mrs. Hunter is back... next meeting will discuss. 

            -  Send letter out for used games for the indoor recess as kids really don't have much to do if there is indoor recess.

            - Occupational therapist... tables also till next meeting when Mrs. Hunter comes back.

            - Poster  for Campbells labels - Christina to get this done  there will be a labels drive for the month of April and each class will be in competition with each other, class who has the most would get a extra gym class or some other prize.  Posie mentioned getting a soup costume and taking her kids out to advertise and have fun with this event promoting community school program. 

            -  Michelle - new face- brought for the club regent fundrasier as Kristine did, this is only if you have a goal to achieve. We would look into working towards a electronic billboard for the school.  Table till next meeting, Cynthia will get a price quote.

            -  Next meeting April. 20th  WBS Library - 7p.m.
