PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES 

Date:               April 20,2010             

Time:              7:00 p.m.

Place:              WBS Library

 

Present:          Cynthia Weidl, Dana LaRocque, Nancy B, Kristine Maisy, Christina Ambrose,  Michelle LeBlanc, Allan Sulyma, Branda Henderson, Donna Hunter, Mr. Gibson.

                                               

1.0       PAC Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

2.0       Agenda motioned by Christina, seconded by Brenda. Approved 

 

3.0       Minutes motioned by Brenda, seconded by Christina. Approved.

 

4.0       Allan Sulyma - Recreation Director:

Ice back in at rec centre this year.

 -  PAC Opportunities: - Hot dog sales on Canada Day - One day only allowable deal with all businesses. PAC would have to purchase all hot dogs and drinks this year. June 12th the town will be hosting a Crafters Market and PAC would be able to hold a yard sale in conjunction with this. PAC would receive 15$ from every table sold from The Crafters and any monies made selling tables for the yard sale would be PAC's. This will be held rain or shine if it does rain it would be held inside the Rec Centre.

-  PAC together with Rec centre for afterschool program? Volunteers would be needed.  Maybe movie nights for PAC to hold.

 

5.0       OLD BUSINESS

 -   Epicure Fundraiser was brought in. Sell a bag for 21$ and PAC would get a 5$ profit for every one sold. There are 3 dips per bag w/recipes.

 - Mr. Moore has done the website update. Executives have been put on there. Cynthia only has her number listed for contacts.

- Recycle program, old cell phones and ink cartridges, have the students make posters to put onto the boxes and have them a little more bold and attracting.

 - See if Cynthia can get other schools involved, Michelle LeBlanc will also get more involved with more boxes being distributed. Need to get this into the Blue Rooster and have more people informed.

 -  Pac website made up on face book? Michelle LeBlanc would look into this,

“beachpac @live.ca” that was being developed would be used as a Q/A site with all info about us listed there and future events.

- Kitchen clean up? Was this completed and will it be on going due to PAC starting a lunch program monthly?

 - Washrooms are ongoing battle. Feminine machine was to be removed altogether as it is no longer a useable machine. Any students needing any feminine products feel free to see the councilor.

-   Letter has been sent out to Tony Pimental, Trisha was not here but she has informed Cynthia.

-  Fundraiser for May is " Stuck on you" Labels. This will be going out after Mothers Day weekend.

- Brenda motioned for us to hold Hot Dog BBQ on Canada Day. Christina seconds the motion, all in favor. Closed. We will try to get a cotton candy machine again for the day and we

 

as PAC will purchase sugar for the machine. Michelle will see if she can get a machine for cotton candy as well. Nancy to get food expenses.

- Grad gift survey went out and needs to get done asap to put orders in. Nancy to get the number and grade 7 kids all agreed they wanted the sweatshirts again.

-  Hot lunches are a go. Once or twice a month. Kristine will get her food handlers certif.  cost is 100$ and imbursement will be made after she completes and passes the course. Christina motioned to have hot dog day on Friday, May 14th while also selling Kool-Aid jammers and jello to the children. Kristine seconds the motion. all in favor. Closed. Nancy to price out all the items.  Michelle will get the forms made up and send to Kristine. Pizza day will be done on May 26th. Kristine motions the Pizza day and Brenda seconds the motion. All in favor. Closed.

- Occupational Therapist - 3 times a year as part of the educational needs. Division hires and distributes her time. Yes however 3 times a year may not be enough. You do need to go to the board and dispute this. Find out when the next board meeting is and attend to voice your concerns.

 -  Electric billboard was looked into by Cynthia the cost is about 10,000$ for this, not including concrete pole etc. This needs to see if it can be approved by the lotto fundraiser bingo, and apply for this now. Cynthia will see if we can get the concrete and labor done ourselves through the community. Motion to do this, All in favor. Closed.

- Mrs. McDevitt has received all monies need for the basketball nets. Let us know when the receipt comes in to give our portion.

-  Net book for raffle Nancy and Trish will do this fundraiser.

           

6.0       TREASURER’S REPORT

            - Balance in account is 4955.89$ 

 

7.0     ADMIN'S REPORT

            - There are reorganizing and staffing going on right now.  Mr. McDonald has resigned

            -  Cleaning and Maintenance is being monitored by division. 

            -  School enrollment sits now at 144

            -  Earth day will be April 22nd.

            -  Field trips are being investigated by EY & Leadership in MY

            -  Staffing and postings being done for the 2010/11 year.

             - ArtSmarts II (grade 5 & 6 this year and 3 - 6 next years)
