Employability Skills Portfolio

Exams

Exam Procedure:

Students writing exams for college, university, apprenticeship levels and other situation will find that they may be asked to follow certain rules. To get students ready for this, we are implementing a protocol to be followed for mid year and final exams.

Be prepared to have these rules enforced when you are writing your exams. It is likley that you will face similar regulations when you write an exam beyond high school.

1. The only items you may bring to the examination are

- writing supplies,

- ruler

- calculator

- water bottle

- specific supplies required for that examination

2. Jackets, caps, etc. must be removed and left at the front of the exam room.

3. Backpacks, gym bags, purses, etc. must be left at the front of the room.

4, If electronic devices are brought to the room (cell phones, iPods, etc.) they must be turned off and left at the front of the exam room.

5. Students may not talk to other students in the exam room. Consequences of doing so could include the exam being taken away.

6. Students must keep there eyes on their own paper.

7. Students with questions or requests must raise their hand and wait for the instructor to respond.

If you attend a post secondary institution and any of the above items are not followed. You could receive a mark of zero on that exam, you could be told you will have to drop the course. You could be told you cannot attend that post secondary training institution any longer. You would not get your tuition money back if you were told to leave and you would have a difficult time registering for a course in the future.

Now is the time to get used to the above protocol!

Assessment Policy

Final assessments and examinations may be used as a major assessment of student learning when they are conducted in such a way that they effectively assess the achievement of the learning outcomes of the curriculum upon which the course is based.

The following regulations apply for Grades 9-12:
• All courses will have a final cumulative assessment
• All core subjects (ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) will have a final cumulative examination or standards test. The percentage of the final mark will be as follows:
• Grade 9/10 – 25%
• Grade 11/12 – 30%
• Students that have an excused absence on the day of final examination or standards test must write an alternative exam.
• There will be no exemptions for examinations (unless stated in an IEP).

Exam Schedule:

The Applied Math Provincial Standards Exam is being held on June 11 and 12. See Mrs. Einarson's wiki for more information. Click here for a printable version of the exam schedule.
