Gimli High School Clubs
The GHS Social Justice Committee takes part in the planning for the 30 Hour Famine, bringing in speakers from our community to speak on issues relevant to teens, and organizing events like the food drive. To get involved, see Mr. Jantz.

For the past two years a group of students, named the RespectEd team, has played an important role in our school. Every year they choose a relevant topic to teens, research it well, construct a 1 hour presentation and then present it to all of our students, one classroom at a time. This year’s topic was homophobia. They were very successful in educating students and staff about the topic. They also presented to our grade nines on the topic of bullying on the first day of school.

The GHS Youth in Philanthropy committee is a group of students who get together several times throughout the year to learn about philanthropy and go through a process to select various community or school groups to receive grant money. In 2008 they selected five organizations which were granted a total of $2500. They were Special Olympics, GHS Social Justice Committee, Gimli Community Healing Garden, Gimli Children’s Centre, and the GHS Band Boosters. The committee also has a representative from the Westshore Foundation and faculty assistance from Mrs. Johannson and Mrs. Dankochik.
Drama
Club: To get involved on stage or
behind the scenes, see Ms Arnason who is always
scouting for talents and enthusiastic individuals.
Enviro Club: Every year, the Gimli High School Enviro Club participates in a variety of events and several projects. We manage to keep ourselves quite busy. Throughout the year we hold several fundraising events. Our most recent, a raffle for a quilt and two pillows that were made out of recycled materials. We send two teams each year to the Canon Envirothon, a province wide competition on the environment. Although some hard work is needed for preparation, students always return with much enthusiasm and eagerness. We also have a recycling program in our school. We are always welcome to new students. Please contact Mrs. Bailey for more information.

Yearbook Committee: The yearbook committee is supervised by Ms. Skene and Mr. Kuusselka. Students from various grades contribute write-ups and photos to this main committee. The yearbook is completed by June, published by Life Touch in the summer and ready for distribution in September. Yearbooks are paid for through student fees.
